Safe Handling of Medicines

Overview: The aim of this course is to increase candidates’ awareness of the Safe Handling of Medicines.

Outcome: Participants should be able to identify the different routes and methods of administration, understand and identify the information found on the labels, correct methods of storage and disposal and the importance of correct recording and reporting. This will ensure staff can carry out medicine handling duties safely and in line with the relevant legislation and policies.                                                                                                                                                                                                 

Topics Covered: Introduction to medicines, Legislation, Definition of Medicines, Routes of Administration, Prescribing and Monitoring, Dispensing labels, Storage and expiry, Medicines Administration Records, Administration of Medication, Disposal of Medicines
